Cornwall Youth Theatre's production of Hell's Mouth

About CYTC

Since it began in 1984 Cornwall Youth Theatre Company (CYTC) has worked with thousands of young people and toured hundreds of plays to multiple venues across Cornwall and occasionally beyond. CYTC offers young people aged from 12 to 22 the opportunity to take part in a wide range of theatre-based activities under the guidance of highly qualified professional practitioners.

Touring theatre shows with young people since 1984!

We aim to give young people the inspiration to test their own skills and gain practical experience of performing and producing touring theatre in a professional environment. We aim to encourage tolerance as well as talent and we are committed to being welcoming and accessible to all people. As well as skill building and play making, CYTC is also a lot of fun, and is as much about raising self-esteem, building confidence and working as an ensemble, as it is about touring a play.

CYTC’s main season specialises in touring productions to a wide range of venues across Cornwall, these include established theatre venues, schools, colleges, village halls and open-air spaces. By touring a show the young people involved get a unique insight into small scale touring, often to rural and unconventional venues and locations.

Since 2022 the company has been run by Blystra Arts CIC, an arts company that specialises in community performance and creative community activity. This partnership means that CYTC members now benefit from being even further lodged in to the Cornish creative sector, gaining more wide ranging experience, across even more fields. In 2024 CYTC members through Blystra were involved in the Hope for Cornwall audio project, becoming some of the voice actors used in this project.

In 2025 CYTC is looking in to the possibility of opening up our doors to younger members aged from 8 to 12 years offering fun mini weekly skills sessions from September to June. Sign up to our newsletter here to find out more about this and other up and coming opportunities.

How do I get involved?

If you’re interested in theatre and performance and can offer 110% commitment, we’re interested in what you can offer the company. If you have enthusiasm and drive and are ready to be involved in something brilliant, we want to hear from you.

It doesn’t matter if you’re heading to drama school or university and want to do theatre or performance as a career, or if you simply want to have a great time working with other likeminded people to put on a play, just get in touch and we’ll get back to you about current membership and performance opportunities.

We also work with a number of young people every year who are interested in the other aspects of putting on a play and would like to be part of the crew. In previous years we’ve had people who have supported us in the areas of costumes, props, set building, lighting, sound and stage management, as well as young people interested in assistant directing and writing.

Please do drop us a line if you’re interested in other areas of theatre and we can talk to you about what is possible during our main season of work.
